Golden State Warriors Make Risky Decision by Reportedly Going Against Stephen Curry and Draymond Green’s Wishes Yet Again

The Golden State Warriors have reportedly gone against the wishes of Stephen Curry and Draymond Green yet again, signing Kevin Durant to a two-year deal worth $53.3 million.

The Golden State Warriors had a chance to assist Stephen Curry and his teammates during the NBA summer of 2021 by exchanging their draft choices for a proven veteran. Despite the fact that Curry and the rest of Golden State’s stars allegedly wanted the club to do so, the franchise went against their desires and instead selected two young guys. Now it seems that the Warriors are once again going against Curry’s wishes.

Golden State released veteran guard Avery Bradley in a recent roster change. In terms of on-court performance, saying goodbye to the 2010 first-round selection isn’t a big move, but it allegedly went against the wishes of the team’s stars.

Avery Bradley was released by the Golden State Warriors.

Avery Bradley, a two-time All-Defensive Team selection, has proved to be a strong defensive asset throughout his career.

In 2019-20, he was also a key member of the Los Angeles Lakers, averaging 8.6 points per game and coming up big for a club that finished with the best record in the Western Conference prior to the league’s closure due to COVID-19.

Bradley did not play for the Los Angeles Lakers during the playoffs, and he only appeared in 27 games for the Miami Heat and Houston Rockets in 2020-21. He did, however, join with the Warriors this summer, which seemed to be a move to provide Golden State with leadership and additional perimeter defense as Klay Thompson recovers from his injury.

The Warriors, however, released Bradley, Jordan Bell, Mychal Mulder, and Gary Payton II on Oct. 15. Bradley didn’t have a good preseason for the club, which led to his departure.

However, not everyone was concerned with his preseason performance, according to a report.

According to reports, Stephen Curry and Draymond Green wanted Avery Bradley to join the Warriors.

Some athletes achieve such fame that they have a say in who their team retains on its roster and who they don’t. That may still be true in the case of two-time NBA MVP Stephen Curry and the Warriors, but Golden State seems to have ignored his desires in the case of Avery Bradley.

“Curry and Draymond Green were among a group of strong proponents for retaining Bradley,” according to Marcus Thompson II of The Athletic, since they were among those who weren’t concerned by his preseason performance.

“In his preseason run, the nearly 31-year-old entering his 12th season didn’t seem to have much of an effect. “However, Bradley’s supporters were unconcerned about how a seasoned veteran appeared in preseason,” Thompson wrote. “Instead, they viewed Bradley as someone who might bolster their chances of making a long postseason run.”

In the great scheme of things, who fills the last roster slot shouldn’t be a major consideration. Why couldn’t the Warriors just give their stars what they desired?

This decision may seem insignificant at the time, but it may be another indication that the club isn’t treating its top players with the respect they deserve.

The Warriors seem to be continuing to accomplish the exact opposite of what Stephen Curry desires.

Marcus Thompson stated that the Warriors’ stars made it plain to the team’s front staff prior to the 2021 NBA Draft that they wanted the club to concentrate on attempting to win a championship. They allegedly wanted it to explore trading one of its two first-round draft choices for a player who might assist them this season instead of selecting young prospects who would take time to grow into stars.

So, how did the Warriors fare? Jonathan Kuminga and Moses Moody were selected in the first round.

“Why not simply give Bradley to the stars if they want Bradley?” Following Bradley’s release, Thompson wrote in The Athletic. “Giving them anyone they want for the 15th roster slot seems like a minor ask after not cashing in the selections they wanted, after asking them to be dominating while still mentoring.”

Curry got a four-year deal this summer, while Klay Thompson and Draymond Green’s contracts are set to expire in 2023-24, fortunately for the Warriors. As a result, if the club does not contend for a championship, none of its key players will have open options to depart in the next years. But no one wants to be in a position like James Harden or Ben Simmons. Why wouldn’t Golden State attempt to keep their present players happy by chasing championships and worrying about the future in a few years?

Even in minor instances like Bradley, the franchise’s decision-making has been dubious, and if it doesn’t start appreciating the players who have helped it win three championships, it may be in serious trouble. Although everyone seems to be pleased today, further shows of disrespect may cause some turbulence in the Bay.
