The NBA has been a pioneer in the sports industry when it comes to embracing technological advancements, but is it time for the league to take a step back?

In Philadelphia, Ben Simmons is the talk of the town right now. The unhappy 76ers point guard has said that he would not play another game for the club and that he will not show his face until a trade is completed.
When reporters peppered Joel Embiid is a forward for the Philadelphia 76ers. with questions about Simmons at the 76ers’ media day earlier this week, the All-Star center opted to throw a not-so-subtle dig at his missing teammate that would only drive him farther away.

In recent weeks, the gap between Simmons and the 76ers has become much deeper. According to an ESPN story, Simmons has opted not to play another game with the Sixers after an entire summer of little to no contact between the two sides.
A week later, The Athletic’s Sam Amick claimed that Simmons and Embiid’s relationship had “run its course.”
Amick said, “People who have direct knowledge of how he views this scenario continue to assert that he’s through playing with Embiid.” “It doesn’t seem that this decision is personal, but Simmons, 25, has obviously concluded that his career is better off without Embiid obstructing the runways in the paint that he so desperately needs to thrive.
“In his opinion, the organization’s decision to construct its basketball environment around Embiid’s style just isn’t conducive to the way he needs to play,” according to insiders.
With each new rumor, Simmons’ trade value plummets, and it’s conceivable that he won’t be able to be moved before the season begins next month.
Ben Simmons is the target of Joel Embiid’s not-so-subtle insult.
During the 76ers’ media day on Monday, Embiid finally had the opportunity to talk about the Simmons issue. While Embiid said that he wanted Simmons back on the club and that he enjoys playing with him, he also used the chance to make a not-so-subtle dig at his teammate.
To be honest, we all need to mature.
I consider it in the same way that I consider — for example, I understand being involved in trade rumors and such, but it’s just part of the job. Do you believe the Sixers would turn down an offer from Golden State for Steph [Curry] and Klay [Thompson]?
They’ll have to say yes. I’d say yes because, after all, how can you say no to that? That is exactly what they do. They’ll constantly look for methods to improve. So you can’t be upset about it. That’s the way things are. I look at it this way: you simply have to go on and be yourself while doing the best job you can.
Joel Embiid
Embiid didn’t specifically call Simmons out for being immature, but it’s obvious who he’s referring to in this comparison. The big guy seems to be as irritated as the rest of the Sixers fan base, and his comments will only serve to drive Simmons even farther out the door.
The future of the 76ers is unclear.
The feud between Simmons and the 76ers has devolved into a staring contest between two equally dead statues. Neither side is ready to surrender an inch, but if they want to avert catastrophe, one of them will have to do so soon.
Simmons has said that he would prefer sit out the first few games of the season than wear a 76ers uniform again. On the surface, it seems to be a good idea, but the Sixers will not send an All-Star point guard to another city for a bag of balls and a few practice cones. Because of his infantile demands, that’s pretty much the market rate for Simmons at this point.
Embiid would want to see Simmons return to Philadelphia next season, but based on his subtle dig at his buddy who has gone missing, he won’t be too upset if Simmons is sent packing.
